Leader: Jo Wieczynski – Guild Contact: Cass Bowen
On the second Monday afternoon of the month (except for one month in 2009 – see dates below), a group of devoted quilters meet at the Fruitville Library to work on baby quilts. This group was formed many years ago as a charity group to supply quilts to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as well as other areas of the community where quilts are needed. The Friendship Knot Quilters’ Guild has adopted this group called Kidzquilts as their charity project. All of our members are welcome to join the group in an effort to supply the hospital with baby quilts. All of the babies in the unit go home with a quilt from Kidzquilts group. It is an excellent way to meet other quilters and become involved in a worthwhile charity project. Much of the fabric used to make the quilts is donated by many of our own guild members. A supply of fabric is always available at the meetings.
Our meetings have no formal program except for “Show & Tell”. The members bring the quilts they have worked on during the month to show the other members of the group before they are packed up to go to the hospital. Usually members bring their sewing machines and supplies and work on quilts during the session. There is always an iron and pressing surface available but it’s a good idea to bring an extension cord for your sewing machine.
The Fruitville Library is in Sarasota, just east of I-75 at Fruitville and Coburn Roads. We meet in the large conference room, which is on the left as you enter the building.
The room is ours from 1 to 4 p.m. Hope to see you there!!
