Friendship Knot Quilters’ Guild

April 16, 2007 Meeting Minutes

President Tena Davis called the meeting to order at 7:10 and welcomed all members and guests.

Secretary’s Report: The February and March minutes were approved as published online. Paper copies were available at the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was approved as published in the April newsletter. Bette Behanna has completed a review of the 2005 financial records and found them in order.

Quilt Show: Linda Nichols and Susan Ott reported that the financial report of the quilt show is nearly completed. Gross income was $37,000 and expenses $17,500, giving a profit of approximately $19,500. More than $6800 of this was attributed to Boutique sales, and $2800 to the silent auction.

Membership: Current Guild membership is 256. Attending this evening were 107 members, 3 renewing members and 2 guests, who were welcomed.

Friendship: Joan Hatt has sent out four get-well cards and two sympathy cards.

Quilt-In: The next quilt-in date will be May 7 from 1-4 at Fruitville Library.

Cottage Groups: Coordinators Carroll Jenkins and Carol Brown said a new group will be forming soon. Tonight’s hostesses were members of the Contempos cottage group.

Newsletter: Sheri Cooper will be newsletter editor for May. Items must be sent to Tena for forwarding by the deadline of April 23.

Web: Susan Ott has set up a virtual Quilt Show on the internet with photos taken by Kari Pearce, Kathy Burg and others.

Programs: Marlene Kurtz announced that the holiday quilts this year will be sent to Operation Home Front. Quilts will be lap-size, made as memorial quilts for fallen members of the military. Information on this program may be found on their website. Betty Seeman is coordinating the “Metrotextural” art quilt exhibit to be held in Venice from 6/20 - 8/10. Locally made quilts may be juried into the show; deadline for entries is 5/25.

Education: Nettie Kremski told about next month’s teacher, Jan Krueger. Quilter Camp will be at Dayspring July 13–15.

Tip of the Month: Malia Bosch described making quilt labels by computer.

Show & Tell: Quilts included many donation quilts to be used by children at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Program: Laura Cater-Woods showed her beautiful quilts and slides as she described her development as an art quilter.
