May 21, 2007 Meeting Minutes
President Tena Davis called the meeting to order at 7 pm and welcomed all members and guests. Members of the TAG cottage group were thanked for serving as hostesses.
Secretary’s Report: The April minutes were approved as published online. Paper copies were available at the meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was approved as published in the May newsletter.
Membership: Current Guild membership is 275. 93 members and several guests were present at this meeting. 7 new members have joined by mail in the past month.
Friendship: Joan Hatt sent out 6 get-well cards to members in the past month.
Library: Sue Hootman described 13 new books that have been added to the library and reminded members that AQS publications may be ordered at a discount through the Guild.
Quilt-In: The next quilt-in will be held as usual on the first Monday (June 4) from 1-4 at the Fruitville Library. All are welcome to attend.
Cottage Groups: Coordinator Carol Brown announced that a new cottage group has been organized by Susan Ott for EQ users. They will meet the second Thursday of the month from 1-4. Contact Susan if interested in joining.
Newsletter: Articles for the June newsletter must be received by Editor Sheri Cooper by the deadline of May 28.
Web: Members who have problems getting into the website should contact Ann Greene for help.
Programs: Betty Seeman announced that more art quilts can be included in the Metro Textural exhibit at the Venice Art Center from 6/20 – 8/10, but the deadline for entries is May 25. The program for the June Guild meeting has not yet been determined. The July meeting will be devoted to making quilts for Operation Home Front that will be collected at the Holiday party. Information on these will be published in the next newsletter and on the website.
Education: Cathy Washburn has room for more participants in the UFO Summer Camp to be held July 13-15 at Dayspring Retreat Center in Ellenton. The program at the October Guild meeting will be given by Diane Hire. The November speaker will be Jennie Zipperer. Margaret Miller will speak in January. In February Ruth B. McDowell will teach a 5-day class that will require a special registration procedure; watch your newsletter for details.
Show & Tell: Many beautiful quilts were shown and participants from Jan Krueger’s class showed their “Elongated Diamond” blocks.
Program: Jan Krueger showed the many variations that can be derived from the Log Cabin pattern, as described in “Log Cabin Notebook” by Mary Ellen Hopkins.
