Friendship Knot Quilters’ Guild
Executive Board Meeting
June 12, 2007
Present: Tena Davis, Joy Abbott, Cass Bowen, Sue Hootman, Carroll Jenkins, Marlene Kurtz, Susan Ott, Linda Pearce, Jane Shannon
Old Business: There will be a reception for the opening of the Venice Art Quilt Show on June 22. Many local quilts will be included along with the Metro-Textural exhibit. Up to a total of $125 in expenditures for printing flyers and for other artistic expenses related to the show was authorized. Guild By-Laws and Policy documents will be reviewed by a committee of Board members. Various ideas for filling the vacant Historian position were discussed, including having cottage groups take responsibility for this on a rotating basis. Board members will write out descriptions of the duties and responsibilities for their positions. Ideas for an exchange or visit with quilters in Sarasota’s Italian sister city of Treviso were considered.
New Business: Some prize items left over from the quilt show will be used as door prizes for the upcoming quilt retreat at Dayspring. Drawings for door prizes will be done again at Guild meetings, possibly beginning at the August meeting. A request to participate in a Fundraiser Concert with the Sarasota Jazz Ensemble was declined. Board members were asked to begin looking for possible Chairs for the next quilt show.
Committee Reports:
Treasurer: The Guild’s insurance policy with Nationwide expires in July. Renewal would be $965, but its coverage of all guild events and locations is uncertain. A policy with a different company will cost $1300 but would offer more and clearer coverage. The Board voted unanimously to give Treasurer Susan Ott the authority to make the decision.
Membership: Current membership is 268.
Library: There will be no library table at the June meeting due to Sue Hootman’s absence. Books may be returned at the July meeting. It was decided that the library will begin offering DVDs in the near future.
Newsletter: There will be a combined July/August issue. Deadline is June 25.
Website: At present every committee head is sending information to Kari for posting on the website. Having only one designated person coordinate this was discussed.
Programs: Willa Baranowski from the Venice Guild will present the June program on Penny Squares. July we will work on Operation Homefront quilts and in August Che-ke-ka Moore will tell of the Black Seminole quilting tradition.
Education: Contracts are being finalized for the coming year.
Cottage Groups: Carroll Jenkins is preparing a brochure about cottage groups to hand out to new members.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane Shannon, Secretary
