June 18, 2007 Meeting Minutes

President Tena Davis called the meeting to order at 7 pm and welcomed all members and guests. Members of the Savvy Saturday Sisters cottage group were thanked for serving as hostesses for this meeting.

Secretary’s Report: The May minutes were approved as published online. Paper copies were available at the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was approved as published on the website.

Quilt Show: Co-chairs are needed for the 2009 quilt show.

Membership: There are 277 current Guild members. 73 were in attendance at this meeting, including one new member, and there were 5 guests.

Friendship: Joan Hatt sent out two get-well cards to members in the past month.

Library: The library was closed this month, but will return in July. Chair Sue Hootman will expand the library’s offerings by adding some DVDs.

Quilt-In: The next monthly quilt-in will be July 2, 1-4 p.m. at Fruitville Library. Members were reminded that Kids Quilts are made on the fourth Monday of each month, also 1-4 at Fruitville Library.

Cottage Groups: Carroll Jenkins has made brochures for new members describing cottage groups. A new cottage group has been formed for owners of Janome 6600 machines and a new education group for users of Electric Quilt software. Historian: Kathy Burg has generously volunteered to fill the vacant position of Guild historian. THANK YOU, KATHY!!

Newsletter: All articles and information for the combined July/August issue must be received by editor Sheri Cooper by the Monday, June 25 deadline.

Web-Google Group: Any problems with either of these should be reported to Ann Greene.

Programs: At the July guild meeting we will be making quilts for Operation Homefront. Program Chair Marlene Kurtz promises door prizes that evening. Several people from our guild have pieces in the Paradise Perspectives art quilt exhibit at the Venice Art Center from June 20 to August 10.

Education: Linda Pearce spoke of upcoming classes and reminded members of the special registration procedure for Ruth B. McDowell’s class.

Tip of the Month: Malia Bosch spoke of “why we don’t get organized and why we should” and gave practical hints for clearing quilt-room clutter.

Show and Tell: Many beautiful quilts were shown, including some using Redwork, the topic of this evening’s program.

Program: Venice resident Willa Baranowski brought many examples of beautiful and historic Redwork/Penny squares quilts to share with us.
